SDCFA CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY WITH DIPLOMATIC GALA DINNER
A Diplomatic Gala Dinner celebrating the first anniversary of the SDCfA featured a keynote address by Professor Salim Abdool Karim and included a ceremony honouring the pledges made in support of Science for Social Justice in 2023, in commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day.
Prof. Karim is a South African clinical infectious diseases epidemiologist who is widely recognised for his research contributions in HIV prevention and treatment. He is Director of the Centre for the AIDS Program of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) and CAPRISA Professor of Global Health at Columbia University. He is also Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Cornell University, New York. He is also an Associate Member of The Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. The dinner also celebrated the launch of the book, Standing Up for Science, which is Prof. Karim’s personal, behind-the-scenes account of the first three years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
