The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), through the SDCfA initiative, arranged a special online briefing on 11 April 2023 for the Diplomatic Community about South Africa’s hosting of IST-Africa 2023 Conference.
At the invitation of Dr Heide Hackmann of the Future Africa Institute, members of the SDCfA Working Group met over lunch with her, Prof. Chris Isike of the University of Pretoria, and Prof. Xiaotian Zhang and Prof. David Mickler of the Curtin University Australia on 13 February 2023.
The World Science Forum 2022 and its call to action for creating a more equal, fair, and just world provided an ideal platform for a thematic session on Science Diplomacy for Social Justice on Thursday, 8 December 2022.
On Thursday, 3 November 2022, the SDCfA hosted a panel session on ‘the role of science diplomacy in supporting a capable state’ during the CSIR’s 8th Biennial Conference – the largest gathering in South Africa of science and industry.
Hosted and facilitated by the SDCfA, this virtual event was presented by Daan du Toit, Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation and Resources in the Department of Science and Innovation.

Friday, 8 July 2022 marked the launch of the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa initiative at its meeting hub, the CSIR International Convention Centre. 34 countries were amongst the 165 guests that included the Dean of Diplomatic Corps in South Africa, the Ambassador of Eritrea.
