SDCFA BUILDS BRIDGES AT THE 2024 BIO AFRICA CONVENTION
The SDCfA hosted a science diplomacy session titled “Building Bridges: The Role of Science Advocacy and Diplomacy in Strengthening Health Security” at the 2024 BIO Africa Convention, which took place from August 24 to 27, 2024, in Durban.
The BIO Africa Convention provides a platform for thought leaders, innovators and stakeholders from across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare sectors to exchange ideas, share best practices, and develop collaborative approaches to strengthening the continent’s healthcare infrastructure.
During the session, held on 27 August 2024, Ms Palesa Kganane, Strategic Partnerships Coordinator at SDCfA, provided an overview of the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa initiative.
The session was chaired by Dr Bathabile Ramalapa, Senior Researcher at the CSIR. The panel featured:
- Dr Nicaise Ndembi, Head of Partnerships for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM) & Head of the Science Office at Africa CDC
- Dr Tsepo Tsekoa, Chief Researcher at the CSIR
- Dr Phiyani Lebea, Chief Scientific Officer at Tokabio
- Dr Phuti Chelopomgobozi, Bio-Innovation Manager at The Innovation Hub
